Language Proficiency Requirements
Although some members of our club speak other languages, the working language of the club is German. Thus we expect a certain proficiency in German.
Prospective members must be able to communicate effectively in German, primarily in spoken form, to participate fully in club activities, meetings, and events. This includes understanding instructions, contributing to discussions, and engaging with fellow members.
All official announcements, meetings, and club-related communications are conducted in German as are the theory lessons during the Winter months. Sufficient proficiency in German is mandatory for participating in flying operations. We do not require a specific certificate such as from the Goethe-Institute – rather we need to be certain that a prospective member can meet the above requirements. This can best be determined by attending our weekend trial lessons (Schnupperkurs), however the candidate should be certain of their capabilities before attending the course.
In addition we have recently been informed that the aviation authority in Schleswig-Holstein (the Federal state in which we are located) has certain requirements for language proficiency when the practical examination takes place to complete the SPL (Sailplane Pilot License).
